Patna : World No 22 Lu Guang Zu, China, stunned reigning Olympic Champion and World No 3 Chen Long, China, in the second round of Fuzhou China Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, at Haixia Olympic Sports Centre, Fuzhou, China, on November 7, 2019.
Zu upset 5th seed Chen Long in a three-game thriller 21-10, 10-21, 21-13 in 47 minutes to enter the quarters-finals of the tournament. Zu won 52 rallies in the match to 44 by Long, who had won the Yonex French Open title, also an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, on October 27, 2019. Zu won 9 consecutive points in the match to 7 by Long. Zo now leads Long 2-0 Head to Head.
World No 5 Anders Antonsen, Denmark, also entered the QFs beating World No 11 B Sai Praneeth, India, in a tough three-game contest 22-20, 20-22, 21-16 in 84 minutes in 2nd round. World No 26 Rasmus Gemke, Denmark, also entered the QFs after his 2nd round opponent and World No 4 Shi Yu Qi, China, the 3rd seed, retired due to injury in the second game after having lost the first game 10-21.
