Saharsa : The condition of 55 persons including 35 women sitting on indefinite fast since February 19, 2017, to press their demand for construction of a Mahasetu over river Kosi at Dhengrahighat in Saharsa district continues to deteriorate. They were administered saline drip even on March 6. The district administration has deployed cops at the fast venue for the protection of those sitting on indefinite fast including Babulal Shaurya.

The locals blocked the Simri Bakhtiarpur – Sonbersa NH 107 on March 6 for three hours to press the demand for construction of Mahasetu at Dhengrahighat. They threatened to intensify the agitation if the government does not concede their demand. Over three hundred youth led by the convener of Jan Sanghursh Abhiyan Subhash Chandra Joshi took out a procession from Dhengrahighat and staged demonstration outside at Salkhua and Simri Bakhtiarpur block offices. Later on, many of them reached Saharsa by bikes and staged demonstration before collectorate. They also met Nageshwar Chaudhary, who was also on fast, at Saharsa Sadar hospital. Addressing the youth on Sadar hospital premises, Subhash Chandra said that Farkia area in Kosi division has remained neglected so far and benefit of welfare schemes does not reach them.

Meanwhile, LJP leader onstand MLC Nutan Singh on March 6 raised the issue legislative of construction of Mahasetu over river Kosi at Dhengrahighat in Bihar legislative council during Zero Hour and demanded a statement from the state government on it. She said that the government has remained indifferent to the demand so far. She told this reporter that Deputy Chairman of Council had sought information about the initiative taken by the government in this regard. She said outside the Upper House Parliamentary Affairs minister Shravan Kumar told her that he had collected all the detail from Saharsa DM. BJP MLA Niraj Kumar Singh Babloo would raise the issue in Bihar legislative assembly on March 7.
