Patna : Lightning killed 24 persons including four women and injured 17 others in five districts of North Bihar on June 25, 2020. Lightning struck them when they were  engaged in transplanting paddy seedlings on agricultural land. Most of the victims were  farmers and agriculture labourers. Thirteen deaths were reported from Gopalganj district, according to Disaster  Management Department  sources.

SDM Sadar, Gopalganj, Upendra Pal, said that 13  persons were killed in lightning in Barauli, Majha, Vijayipur, Uchakagaon, and Kateya  while 12 persons were  injured. Five persons  were killed in Siwan,  three including 2 women in East Champaran, two persons  (wife and husband)  were killed at village Belaha in Madhubani district, while one person was killed  in Darbhanga  district. An Indian Meteorological  Department (IMD) official at Patna said that the incidents lightning strike in state increase during June -September and advised the people to not take shelter under isolated tree  during  thunder shower.

Heavy rains  in last 12 hours on June 25, 2020, in East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga districts and in the catchment areas in Nepal has given a push  to the rising trends in rivers like Bagamati, Lalbakeya, Burhi Gandak ,Gandak, Lakhandei, Adhwara Group rivers, Masan, and other hilly rivers  in north Biha. Many areas of
Bagaha Sub-Division in West Champaran and Gopalganj District  have been inundated  as water of swollen  Gandak  river has entered villages located between  two embankments.
