Patna : RJD chief and former Union Minister Lalu Prasad on October 15, 2017, said that PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar were making a fool of people of Bihar over the issue of conversion of Patna University (PU) into a Central University.

CM Nitish Kumar had demanded grant of Central University status to PU while addressing the centenary function of the universiy on Patna Science College campus on October 14 but PM Narendra Modi addressing the same function said that he has greater things in his mind for it and hinted that it could be included among the 10 public universities to be developed as a world class university along with 10 private universities.

Lalu, who returned from Delhi on October 15, alleged that both PM Modi and Nitish Kumar must have decided beforehand that one of them would propose and the other would dispose it. BJP MP from Patna Sahib Shatrughna Sinhais felt that the denial of central univrsity status to PU had disappointed the students, alumni and public. But JD(U) General Secretary and Rajya Sabha Member K C Tyagi said that the decision to grant central university status to PU was never expected to be an on the spot decision. It will be decided later, he said.

Incidentally, PM Modi had laid foundation of four Sewerage and four NH projects worth Rs 3,700 crore at Mokama in Patna district on October 14. But, the opposition parties are almost silent over it.
