Ranchi ( Jharkhand): A special CBI court presided by judge S S Prasad on January 24, 2018, here convicted RJD chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad, 69, and former CM Jagannath Mishra, 80, in a fodder scam case bearing number RC 68 A/ 1996, involving fraudulent drawal of Rs37.62 crore from Chaibasa Treasury in the 1990s. this is the third fodder scam case in which Lalu has been convicted. Out of the 56 accused in the case, six were acquitted.

Lalu was also convicted in a fodder scam case on December 23, 2017, in which Mishra had been acquitted. On January 6, 2018, Lalu was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail and fined Rs 10 lakh by a another CBI judge in the case involving fraudulent drawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury 21 years ago. Lalu is currently lodged in the Birsa Munda Jail here.

In 2013, Lalu was convicted in the first fodder scam case involving fraudulent drawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa treasury and was disqualified from Lok Sabha.
