Saharsa : Angry over the road construction work undertaken by Gamharia panchayat, a bike borne man Vikas Kumar, 30, shot dead a labourer Mohd Kari at village Itahara under Baijnathpur police outpost in Saharsa district on March 25, 2017, noon. In retaliation, the rest of the labourers engaged in brick soling caught Vikas and thrashed him. Incharge, Baijnathpur police outpost, rushed seriously injured Vikas to Sadar Hospital, Saharsa, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Mohd Kari was a native of Itahara while Vikas, a land broker, belonged to Gamharia village. The residents of Itahara and labourer placed Mohd Kari’s body on NH 107 near Baijnathpur Chowk and blocked traffic on it for several hours. They also staged demonstration there.

SHO, Saharasa Sadar police station, Bhai Bharat has intensified police patrolling in Itahara and adjoining areas in view of tension which prevails there after the incident. Police have seized the damaged bike and are  searching for the pistol used for killing Mohd Kari. Saharsa SP Ashwini Kumar also deployed three DSPs with force in the areas concerned. The SP claimed that the situation was under control.
