Kyrgios beats Zverev to win ATP Mexican Open title

Patna : World No 72 Nick Kyrgios, 23, Australia, stunned World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, in the final to win the Mexican Open, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament on hard court, at Acapulco, Mexico, on March 3, 2019. Kyrgios, who had upset top seed and World No 2 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, in the Round of 16 on February 28, 2019, beat 2nd seed Zverev 6-3, 6-4 in in 1 hr 30 minutes the final.

Kyrgios fired 13 Aces in the match to 7 by Zverev. Kyrgios broke Zverev’s service thrice in the match while the latter broke his service just once. He also won 3 games in a row compared to 2 by Zverev. Kyrgios’ winning percentage both on his first and second serve was better than that of Zverev. Kyrgios’ ATP rankings will improve after his victory at Acapulco.

Meanwhile, World No 7 Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, won his 100th career title on March 2, 2019, defeating World No 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, in the final of Dubai Tennis Championships, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament, at Dubai, UAE. Federer beat Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in 1hr 9 minutes in the final to win the Dubai Tennis Championship.
