Patna : Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 15 runs in the 15th match of IPL 2018 at Punjab Cricket Association I S Bindra Stadium, Mohali, on April 19 night. Batting first after winning the toss, KXIP scored 193/3 riding on an explosive unbeaten 104 in 63 balls with 11 sixes and a four by opener Chris Gayle, who hit four consecutive sixes in the 14th over bowled by SRH’s much hyped spinner Rashid Khan, Afghanisan.
Gayle’s century was the first in the IPL this season. He has so far scored six centuries in the IPL proving he is still as strong and agile as in the first edition of the event in 2008. Karun Nair made 31 in 21 balls with 3 fours and a six. Aaron Finch, Australia, made an unbeaten 14 in 6 balls with a six and a four.
For SRH, Rashid Khan took 1/55 in 4 overs while pacer Siddharth Kaul took 1/33 in 4 overs. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar took 1/25 in his four overs.
SRH could score only 178/4 in 20 overs even as captain Kane Williamson made 54 in 41 balls hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes and Manish Pandey scored an unbeaten 57 in 42 balls with 3 fours and a six. Sakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh, made an unbeaten 24 in 12 balls hitting a four and 2 sixes. Yusuf pathan was out for 19.
For KXIP, Mohit Sharma took 2/51 in 4 overs while Andrew Tye took 2/23 in 4 overs. KXIP Captain Ravichandran Ashwin leaked 53 runs in his 4 overs without getting a wicket
