Kohlschreiber upsets Number 2 seed Marin Cilic in Indian Wells Masters

Patna : World Number 110 Yuki Bhambri, 25, India, lost to World Number 21 Sam Querry, 30, USA, in the third round of Indian Wells ATP Masters tennis tournament at California, USA, in a three set thriller 7-6, 4-6, 4-6 on March 13, 2018. Bhambri won the first set but lost the next two sets after putting a valiant fight. Bhambri had stunned World Number 12 Lucas Pouilli, 24, France, in the second round.

World Number 37 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 34, Germany, the 31 seed, defeated World Number 3 Marin Cilic, 29, Croatia, the Number 2 seed,  6-4, 6-4, in a massive upset, to enter the rourth round. Cilic, aformer US Open Champion,  had the final of Wimbledon in 2017 and Australian Open in 2018.

Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez, 36, ranked 32nd in the world, defeated World Number 10 Jack Sock, 25, USA, the Number 8 seed, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, to enter the fourth round of the tournament.  Lopez was seeded 28th at the event. World Number 38 Milos Raunic, 27, Canada, the 32nd seed, entered the 4th round after defeating Joao Sousa, 28, Pourtugal, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Sousa is ranked 85th in the world.

World Number 8 Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, defeated World Number 33 David Ferrer, 35, Spain, 6-4, 7-6, to enter the 4th round. del Porto was seeded 6 in the tournament while Ferer was seeded 29th.

Kasatkina stuns Wozniacki: In the Women’s section, Daria Kasatkina, 20, Russia, the Number 20 seed, stunned World Number 2 Caroline Wozniacki, the Number 2 seed in the tournament, 6-4, 7-4, in the round of 16  to enter the quarter-finals. Wozniacki is reigning Australian Open Champion. It was Kasatkina’s second win over Wozniacki in 2018. Kasatkina had shocked US Open Champion Sloane Stephens, USA, the Number 13 seed, in the third round.

Angeliq Kerber, Germany, the Number 10 seed, entered the quater-finals, crushing the Number 7 seed Caroline Garcia, France, 6-1, 6-1, in the round of 16 match. Carla Suarez Navarro, Spain, the Number 27 seed, also entered the quarter-final after defeating World Number 117 D Collins, USA,  6-2, 6-4 in round of 16. Venus Williams, 37, USA, the Number 8th seed, also entered the quarter-finals defeating A Sevastova, the 21st seed, 7-6, 6-4, in the round of 16 match. Number 5 seed Karolina Pliskova, Czech Republic,  also entered the quarter-finals defeating A Anisimova, USA,  6-1, 7-6 in the round of 16.
