Patna : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were restricted to a modest 149/9 in 20 overs against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 46th match of IPL 2020 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, UAE, on October 26, 2020, night with opener Shbubhman Gill, 21, scoring 57 in 45 balls hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes, his 7th fifty in IPL, and captain Eoin Morgan scoring 40 in 25 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. KKR fast bowler Lockie Ferguson remained unbeaten on 24 in 13 balls hitting 3 fours and a six. KXIP won the toss but opted to bowl.
Batting first, KKR made a disastrous start losing their first three wickets including that of their former captain Dinesh Karthik in first two overs with only 10 runs on board with fast bowler Mohammad Shami taking two wickets in his first over, the 2nd over of the match. It was 10/3 in 2 overs. But opener Shubhman Gill and Morgan steadied the innings with counter attack and added 81 runs for the 4th wicket. Morgan fell to spinner Ravi Bishnoi for 40 and it was 91/4.
Sunil Narine fell to fast bowler Chris Jordan for 6 making it 101/5. Fast bowler Kamlesh Nagarkoti fell to spinner Murugan Ashwin for 6 and it was 113/6. Fast bowler pat Cummins fell to Bishnoi for 1 making it 114/7. Shubhman Gill fell to Mohd Shami and it was 136/8. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy fell to Jordan for 2 making it 149/9. KXIP spinners Murugan Ashwin, 30, and Ravi Bishnoi, 20, bowled beautifully slowing down the scoring rate of KKR. Bishnoi took 2/20 in 4 overs while Murugan Ashwin took 1/27 in 4 overs. The two spinners together conceded only 47 runs.
