Patna : Kolkata Knight Ridwrs (KKR) defeated five -time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in the 34th match of IPL at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on September 23, 2021, late night, with Rahul Tripathi scoring an unbeaten 74 in 42 balls hitting 8 four and 3 sixes and opener Vekatesh Iyer scoring 53 runs in 30 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes, his first IPL fifty. Both KKR and MI have now 8 points each after 9 games.
Both Iyer and Tripathi scored runs at a blistering pace going after the top MI bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Adam Milne almost with contemptuous ease. Bumrah, however, took three wickets. Iyer and Tripathi added 88 runs for the 2nd wicket. Opener Shubman Gill fell to Bumrah for 13 runs. Iyer also fell to Bumrah for 53 making it 128/2. KKR captain Eoin Morgan fell to Bumrah for 7 runs making it 147/3.
Chsing a target of 157 runs KKR scored 159/3 in only 15.1 overs with Nitish Rana hitting the winning four. MI had scored 155/5 in 20 overs with opener Quinton de Kock scoring 55 runs and captain Rohit Sharma 33 runs.
