Ara : Family members and acquaintances of a retired armyman Ravindra Singh damaged Ara Sadar Hospital properties on April 27, 2021, late evening, after his death. They also thrashed a ward boy Deepak Kumar and attacked a doctor on duty Ashutosh Kumar with an iron rod injuring him. They also unsuccessfully tried to take away the doctor. Later, police arrested a relative of the deceased Nadan Kumar of Arwal District and brought the situation under control.
A retired armyman Ravindra Singh of Dharahara locality under Ara town police station was suffering cold, cough, and loose motion for the last three days. His condition deteriorated in the afternoon on April 27, 2021, and he was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital where he breathed his last during treatment in the late evening. As the news of his death spread, family members and acquaintances got agitated and went on rampage and damaged properties of the hospital charging the doctors with dereliction of duty.
Dr Ashutosh Kumar said that the patient was brought over to the hospital in serious condition and he had urination and stool problems. Even after the best efforts, he could not be saved. After his death, his family members and acquaintances entered his chamber and misbehaved him with and also attacked him with an iron rod injuring him. Later, police rushed to the spot and arrested a person.
After the incident, doctors at the Ara Sadar Hospital paralysed the emergency service and said that they would not discharge their duty until Bhojpur District administration provided them security. The doctors held an emergency meeting at the chamber of the Civil Surgeon, Ara Sadar Hospital, and resolved not to join duty till they were provided security. Later, the Hospital management had a talk with the Bhojpur DM Roushn Kushwaha and emergency service was restored after he assured additional security to the doctors immediately. Even Bhojpur SP Rakesh Kumar Dubey reached Ara Sadar Hospital and ordered to strengthen security arrangements at the hospital.
It was said that a Oxygen cylinder van reached Ara Sadar Hospital in the night on April 26, 2021, and patients and their family members made hue and cry for the oxygen. Seeing this, the driver returned with the Oxygen cylinders. At this, the attendants of a patient compelled the Ward Boy on duty at the emergency to provide Oxygen to their patients at any cost. They also asked him to take out oxygen from a patient and provide it to their patient but the ward boy was not ready for it. At this, they thrashed the ward boy and dragged the doctor on duty out of the room and took him away with them but the doctor somehow saved himself.
It may be recalled here that family members of patients had attacked Dr Vivekanand recently and the local MP and union minister Raj Kumar Singh had assured stern action against the hoodlums.
