Patna : Top seed and World No 1 Kento Momota, 25, Japan, and World No 30 Parupalli Kashyap, 33, India, advanced to semi-finals of Korea Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 Badminton tournament, at Incheon, South Korea, on September 27, 2019. Momota has won 26 career titles and is World No 1 for the last one year.
Momota beat World No 16 Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia, 21-15, 21-19 in 50 minutes in quarter-finals at Incheon Airport Skydome, Incheaon, on September 27. Momota won 42 rallies in the match to 34 by Lee. Both the players won 5 consecutive points each in the match. Momota now leads Lee 4-0 Head to Head. Reigning World Champion Momota has won 26 career titles and is World No 1 for the last one year.
Parupalli Kashyap upset World No 23 Jan O Jorgensen, 31, Denmark, in straight games 24-22, 21-8 in 37 minutes in quarter-finals. The first game, which lasted 21 minutes, was a real thriller as from 16-16 it went up to 22-22. Thereafter, Kashyap won the next two points. Kashyap won the 2nd game easily in just 16 minutes dominating Jorgensen, a former World No 2.
Kashyap, the 2014 Commonwealth Games singles champion, won 45 rallies in the match to 30 by Jorgensen. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Jorgensen, who has won 11 career titles. Jorgensen though still leads Kashyap 4-3 Head to Head.
World No 2 Chou Tien Che, 29, Taiwan, also entered the SFs defeating World No 27 Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, 25, Indonesia, 21-18, 21-9 in 39 minutes in quarter-finals. Chen won 42 rallies in the match to 27 by Rhustavito.
