Patna : World No 2 Karolina Pliskova, 27, Czech Republic, beat World No 13 Madison Keys, 24, USA, in a three-set thriller in the final to capture the WTA Brisbane International title at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on January 12, 2020.

Karolina secured 470 rankings points plus cash prize for winning the title while Madison Keys bagged 305 rankings points plus cash prize. World No 1 and top seed Ashleigh Barty, Australia, had lost in the Round of 16 to qualifier and World No 53 Jennifer Brady, USA.

Second seed Karolina Pliskova beat 8th seed Madison Keys, the 2017 US Open finalist, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in the final at Queensland Tennis Centre to win the singles title. Pliskova, who had defeated reigning Australian Open Champion and World No 4 Naomi Osaka, Japan, in the semi-finals, won 4 break points in the match to 3 by the American.

Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Madison Keys though fired 10 Aces in the match to 7 by the Czech. Karolina committed 5 double faults to 2 by the American. Karolina’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 67 % & 67 %) was slightly higher than that of Madison (64 % & 55 %). Madison Keys won 64 service points to 61 by Karolina.
