Ara: Government Middle School, Karnamepur, under  Shahpur block in Bhojpur district has 1,766 students but only 14 teachers to teach them. The school is also facing shortage furniture. It has only 11 classroom.

Students of Class I to Class VIII study in this school but there are only 14 teachers to teach them. The school does not have teachers to teach English, Hindi and Mathematics.  About 150 students sit on the floor in each classroom. The students frequently return home after coming to school when they find no space for sitting in their classrooms.

Headmaster, Government Middle School, Karnamepur, Shambhu Nath Pathak said that the school lacks required number of classrooms and teachers for 1,766 students including 878 girls. He said the government is making tall claims to provide all basic amenities in schools but not a single lavatory has so far been constructed in this school causing a lot of problems to the students particularly girls. He said the officials of the education department were requested for construction of additional classrooms but to no avail so far. He said fund had been sanctioned for construction of additional classrooms in Primary and Middle Schools in Bhojpur district but this school was not included in the list.

District Education Officer (DEO) Suresh Prasad Singh said that over Rs 10 crore sanctioned for construction of additional classrooms in schools were embezzled and the education department was looking into the matter. He said once the matter is settled, this school will also be given fund  for  construction of additional classrooms.
