New Delhi : Justice Dipak Misra, 64, was on August 28, 2017, sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India (CJI) at a brief ceremony at Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Misra.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, PM Narendra Modi and several union ministers were present at the ceremony. Former PM Manmohan Singh, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad also attended the oath ceremony.
Justice Misra assumes office following the retirement of Justice J S Khehar on August 27, 2017. He will remain in office till October 2, 2018. Justice Misra was the chief justice of Patna High Court and Delhi high court before being elevated to the apex court in October 2011.
PM Narendra Modi congratulated Justice Dipak Misra on taking oath as the Chief Justice of India. “I congratulate Justice Dipak Misra on taking oath as the Chief Justice of India. I wish him the very best and a fruitful tenure,” the Prime Minister said, according to a PIB release.
