Ranchi (Jharkhand) : The Jharkhand High Court (HC) on April 17, 2021, granted bail to RJD Supremo and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad in a Fodder Scam case, the Dumka Treasury case in Jharkhand, involving fraudulent drawal of Rs 3. 13 crore during December 1995 and January 1996 in undivided Bihar. Lalu was convicted in this case. The bail was granted by Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh.
The Jharkhand High Court directed Lalu, also a former Railways Minister, not to leave the country without permission nor change his address and mobile phone number during the bail period. Lallu was also convicted in three other fodder scam cases but was granted bail in those cases earlier.
Pleading for grant of bail to Lalu, senior congress leader Kapil Sibbal said that his client has served more than half of the 7 years’ imprisonment awarded to him. He said that as the others accused have been released , Lalu should also be granted bail. The CBI lawyers though opposed the bail.
Senior RJD leader Shivanand Tiwary said Lalu Prasad is at present undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi. Tiwary said it will take few days for the release of the RJD Chief.
