Jharia Division, Tata Steel, celebrates WED

Jamadoba (Dhanbad, Jharkhand) : Jharia Divion of Tata Steel celebrated World Environment Day (WED) on June 5, 2017, to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter environment in line with the UN theme this year “Connecting People to Nature”. In Jharia division, Tata Steel, around 300 saplings of 24 types of medicinal plants were planted at Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Jamadoba. The same location is being developed as Medicinal Garden and will be open for the public few months later.

Subrata Das, Chief, Jamadoba Group, Ms Nupur Das, Mr Saroj Banerjee, Chief, Engineering Services, Debashis Banerjee, Chief, HRM,  Kunal Sharan, Head, Environment & Safety from Tata Steel, and Mr Santosh Mahto, Regional Secretary, RCMS, along with Heads of other units and employees participated in tree plantation. One hundred fifty saplings different varieties  including  White Tagger, Fichus, Bottle palm, Karanj, Alostromia etc. were planted in Sijua Group of Tata Steel. Jasbir Singh, Chief, Sijua Group, was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Around 100 medicinal plants were planted on this occasion at Bhelatand Club.

Like every year, around 5,000 fruit bearing plants such as Coconut, Mango, Guava, Chiku, Papaya, Lemon were distributed among the employees of Jharia Division, Tata Steel.

To create awareness among the school children, various competitions like Sit & Draw, Quiz and Elocution were organized at Digwadih Club on June 4, 2017.  More than 200 students participated in this competition. Nupur Das, Jasbir Kaur, Tania Banerjee along with others judged the competition and gave away the prizes to the winners.

A technical deliberation on “Connecting People with Nature” was organised on June 5, 2017, by The Institute of Engineers (India), Dhanbad Local Centre, in association with Tata Steel, Jharia Division. The programme was organised at Professional Training Institute, Jamadoba. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Prof Gurdip Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, Vinova Bhave University, Hazaribagh, and Professor, Department of Environment Science and Engineering, IIT ISM, Dhanbad.
