Patna:Veteran lawyer and BJP member in Rajya Sabha Ram Jethmalini’s name has been suggested for nomination as RJD candidate for the Rajya Sabha election by some party leaders to party president Lalu Prasad. Nominaton of Lalu’s wife and former chief miister Rabri Devi is certain as RJD candidate. Lalu had once sent another lawyer Kapil Sibbal, Congress,  to Rajya Sabha from Bihar.

The state parliamentary  board of the RJD met at Rabri’s house 10,Circular Road, here and discussed the  issue of RS and Vidhan Parishad (VP) elections scheduled for June 10 and June 11. Rabri presided over the meeting, according to Ramchandra Purve, state RJD chief. He said names of the candidates would be decided by Lalu Prasad who has been authorised to select nominees for both Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad.Wiith its strength of 81 in state assembly, RJD can send two members from its quota to Rajya Sabha and three to legislative council. Lalu can not contest the election as a ban has been put on him by the Election Commission following his conviction in a fodder scam case after which he was disqualified from Lok Sabha..

Two other RS seats can be shared by JD(U) with Congress’s 27 votes.Names of former party presdent Sharad Yadav  and  party secretary general K C Tyagi are in circulation in JD(U) circles. A final decision will be taken by party chief Nitish Kumar. In return for its expected suppot to JD(U) canddates in the RS poll, ,Congress can be offered two seats in legislative council. One of the JD(U )nominees for council may be its siting RS member and former principal secretary to Nitish,R C P Sinha whose term also expires on July 7 .
Senior party leaders from the state BJP too have started lobbying for Rajya Sabha and council nominations in New Delhi. One BJP member can be elected to Rajya Sabha and two to legislative council on its strength in the Bihar assembly.
