Patna : Bihar CM and JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar, Rameshwar Mahto and Khalid Anwar would be the party nominees for the biennial polls to 11 seats of Bihar legislative council scheduled for April 26, 2018. The JD(U) announced their candidature for council polls on April 15.  The last date for filing nominations for the council polls is April 16.

The JD(U) had constituted a four-member committee to select the party candidates for the council polls. State JD(U) president Bashishtha Narain Singh said that Rameshwar Mahto and Khalid Anwar are dedicated party workers.

The BJP, an ally of JD(U), on April 15 nominated Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, and former Union Minister Sanjay Paswan, for the council polls. Sanjay Paswan, who was out of favour for the past several years, returns to the parliamentary politics indicating the BJP’s efforts to woo dalits in Bihar. Paswan is a Patna University Teacher.

Congress has nominated senior leader Prem Chandra Mishra for the council polls. The RJD has fielded former CM Rabri Devi, Bihar RJD chief and former Minister Ramchandra Purbey, Khurshid Mohsin, and Santosh Manjhi, for the council polls. Santosh Manjhi is the son of former Bihar CM and former HAM (S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, who recently joined the RJD. All the four RJD candidates filed their nominations on April 13, 2018.

CM Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, and former CM Rabri Devi, are members of Bihar legislative council whose terms would end on May 6, 2018.
