Patna : World No 12 John Isner, 34, USA, and World No 18 Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, crashed out of Wimbledon Championship, London, in the second round on July 4, 2019.
World No 58 Mikhail Kukushkin, 31, Kazakhstan, stunned big serving 6′ 10″ Isner in a five-set marathon 6-4, 6-7, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the second round. Kukushkin won 4 break points in the match to just 1 by Isner, a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2018. Isner though hammered 35 Aces in the match to 6 by Kukushkin. Kukushkin won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Isner. Kukushkin will face World No 33 Jan-Lennard Struff, Germany, in the 3rd round.
World No 69 Joao Sousa, 30, Portugal, defeated 2017 Wimbledon finalist and 2014 US Open Champion Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round. Both the players fired 9 Aces each in the match. But, Sousa also won 3 break points besides winning 3 games in row in the match. Sousa will face Dan Evans, UK, in the 3rd round.
