Ara : Irregularities worth Rs 2.5 crore in the purchase of books for Central Library, Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, has come to surface after the Auditor of the university submitted his report in this regard.

University Grant Commission (UGC) had allotted Rs 2.5 crore to the VKSU to purchase books for the Central Library of the university, MBA, PG departments and BEd in 2012 and the VKDU administration purchased books allegedly without adopting he right procedure. The university administration did not bother to form a purchasing committee, publish advertisement and invite tenders in this conection. It also did get consult the Post Graduate Heads of the Department and purchased books. Only signatures of the HoDs were reportedly taken.

Former VC, VKSU, Kumaresh Prasad, former Financial Advisor Ainul Haque, former Coordinator, College Development Committee (CCDC) Sameer Kumar Verma, former Registrar Manoj Kumar, former Finance Officer Arun Kumar Sinha and the then Director, MBA, Ram Janam Sharma were allegedly involved in the purchase of books.

When former Senator Ajay Kumar Tiwari alias Munmun raised this matter and wrote to the Governor cum chancellor and the UGC,  the then Vice Chancellor, VKSU, Leela Chand Sah, got the matter investigated by the Auditor in his office. The Auditor found irregularities in the purchase of books.

Ajay Kumar Tiwari said that Binod Kumar Chaudhary, MLC,  had raised the matter in Bihar Legislative Council and the Education Department had on February 23, 2013, asked the Director and Deputy Director, Higher Education, to inquire into the matter but even after five years no report has so far been submitted.

Registrar, VKSU, Col Shyamanand Jha, said a meeting of the officials of the university related to the purchase of books has been convened on July 28, 2018, and after taking their opinion a report will be sent to Bihar Legislative Council.
