Patna :Scientists, researchers, academicians, policy makers, social activists, NGOs and representatives of population affected by the Ganga River System met at an international conference on “Incessant Ganga” hosted by the Water Resources Department, Bihar Government, here on February 25 & 26, 2017.

The discussions concerned river Ganga, its tributaries, the vast range and variation of catchment regions, the mighty Himalayas, increasingly erratic monsoons and the disturbed global and continental climatic conditions. The concern for evolving a conclusive approach to effectively address the issues was also discussed.

The conference recommended formation of a Ganga River and Basin Rejuvenation Council comprising renowned experts from different disciplines including  NGO’s and the first project undertaken under Ganga River Rejuvenation Mission should  be  the most all-inclusive and comprehensive study of river Ganga, its Tributaries, Ganga River System. The conference also recommended that Farakka Barrage must be reviewed to assess the benefits, costs and future scenario in view of siltation and erosion caused by it.
