Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Friday defended the students of Bihar and said our students are brilliant and have excelled in every field. Speaking at a government sponsored  programme on skill development, the chief minister, however,  said the  toppers scam at Intermediate examinations conducted by Bihar School Examination Board did cause embarrassment to the state.
Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar, father of science stream topper Saurabh Shrestha, who was arrested by SIT probing the scam, has admitted he had paid Rs 5 lakh to Bachcha Rai, principal of controversial  V R college, Bhagwanpur, in Vaishali district, to ensure his son tops the examinations. He also reportedly told SIT that the deal was finalised for Rs 15 lakh and it was agreed the remaining Rs 10 lakh was to be paid later on. He claimed his son was staying in Shimla. SIT had registered an FIR against Shaurabh and issued warrant for his arrest.
