Patna : Among different nations affected by the CORONA Pandemic, India has one of the lowest mortality rates at the global level. India’s case – fatality rate at 3.3 percent is among the lowest in the world. As far as number of deaths per lakh of population goes, India at 0.09 deaths per lakh of population stands at a better footing than even China and South Korea.

According to a recent trend study conducted by the Coronavirus Resource Centre, John Hopkins University, USA, when trends were captured on the basis of mortality analysis, India emerged as one of the best performers. This centre analysed the case – fatality ratio (number of deaths divided by the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases) as also the number of deaths per lakh of population of different countries.

China with 83,959 cases reported till the time of the analysis, had also reported 4,637 deaths on the basis of which China’s case fatality rate comes to 5.5 percent. China had 0.33 deaths per lakh of population.

At that point of time Belgium had reported 49,032 confirmed cases and 7,703 deaths – a case fatality ratio of 15.7 percent. It also had reported 67.44 deaths per lakh of population.

The UK had reported 1,78,685 confirmed cases and 27,583 deaths – a case fatality ratio of 15.4 percent. It had reported 41.49 deaths per lakh of population.

By the same time, Italy had reported 2,07,428 confirmed cases and 28,236 deaths – a case fatality ratio of 13.6 percent. Italy’s deaths per lakh of population was 46.72.

France had reported 1,78,685 confirmed cases and 27,583 deaths – a case fatality ratio of 15.4 percent. The number of deaths per lakh of population was 36.77 for France.

The USA had, by that time, reported 11,03,461 confirmed COVID-19 cases and a total number of 64,943 death. This translated into a case fatality ratio of 5.9 percent and 19.85 deaths per lakh of population.

South Korea had reported 10,780 confirmed cases and 250 deaths – a case fatality ratio of 2.3 percent and a rate of 0.48 deaths per lakh of population.

India, at the same point of time, had reported 37,257 confirmed cases and 1,223 deaths. This converted into a case fatality ratio of 3.3 percent while the number of deaths per lakh of population stood at 0.09.

This is definitely a matter of great satisfaction for India. Our strategy in the fight against the CORONA Pandemic has been an unqualified success so far. On whichever parameter we assess, the results are there for everyone to see.

We must have faith in ourselves and our elected Governments. Our policy makers and the implementation machinery are second to none in the world.

The Great India Success Story is unfolding. Please remember – this is not the India of yesteryears. This is a completely different India which wants to shape its own destiny and has the necessary will power as well as wherewithal to do so.
