Patna : India were all out for 263 in 78.5 overs in their first innings on Day 1 against New Zealand (NZ) in a three-day practice match at Seddon Park, Hamilton, NZ, onĀ  February 14, 2020, with Cheteswar Pujara scoring 93 in 211 balls hitting 11 fours and a six and Hanuma Vihari scoring 101 ( retired out) in 182 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, India made a disastrous start losing the wickets of both the openers ; Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal, with only 5 runs on board. Shaw fell to fast medium bowler Scott Kuggeleijn for a duck making it 0/1 . Agarwal also fell to Koggeleijn for 1 and it was 5/2. Subhman Gill, who had recently scored a double century in NZ playing for India A team, too fell to Kuggeleijn for a duck making it 5/3. Ajinkya Rahane fell to medium fast bowler James Neesham for 18 and it was 38/4.

Pujara and Vihari then added 195 runs for the third wicket. Pujara fell to medium fast bowler Jake Gibson for 93 making it 233/5. Rishabh Pant fell to spinner Ish Sodhi for 7 and it was 246/6. At the same score, spinner fell to Sodhi for a duck and it was 246/7. Wriddhiman Saha (wk) fell to Jake Gibson for a duck making it 250/8. Ravindra Jadeja fell to Sodhi for 8 and it was 263/9.

For NZ, Scott Kuggeleijn took 3/40 while Ish Sodhi took 3/72. Jake Gibson took 2/26 while Neesham took 1/29.
