New Delhi : India recorded 4,03,738 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours taking the tally to 2,22,96,414 in the country at 8 am on May 9, 2021. But, in a very significant development, a total of 3,86,444 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in last 24 hours taking the tally of patients cured in the country to 1,83,17,404 on May 9, 2021. The recovery rate of (RR) of Covid-19 patients improved to 82.15% in the country on May 9 from 81.90% on May 8, 2021. India also registered 4,092 new deaths in last 24 hours taking the tally to 2,42,362 on May 9, 2021.
Active cases climbed to 37,36,648 in India on May 9, 2021, an increase of 13,202 cases in last 24 hours, and accounted for 16.76% of the Covid-19 cases recorded so far ( 2,22,96,414) in the country. The country has tested 30,22,75,471 samples so far including 18,65,428 samples on May 8, 2021. On the other hand, a total of 16,94,39,663 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far including 20,23,532 beneficiaries on May 9, 2021.
The 4,092 new deaths due to Covid-19 in the country included 864 in Maharashtra, 482 in Karnataka, 332 in Delhi, 297 in Uttar Pradesh, 241 in Tamilnadu, 223 in Chhattisgarh, 171 in Punjab, 160 in Rajasthan, 155 in Haryana, 141 in Jharkhand, 127 in West Bengal, 119 in Gujarat, 118 in Uttarakhand, 90 in Madhya Pradesh, 76 in Bihar, and 38 in Telengana. India had recorded 4,187 new deaths on May 8, 2021.
