New Delhi : With the surge continuing at an alarming rate, India recorded 1,26,789 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,29,28,574 cases in the country at 8 am on April 8, 2021. India ha recorded 1,15,736 new cases on April 7, 2021. On the positive side, a total of 59,258 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in India in India in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,18,51,393 on April 8, 2021. On April 7, 2021, a total of 59,856 Covid patients were declared cured in the country. The recovery rate (RR) of Covid-19 patients further dropped to 91.67% in India on April 8, 2021, from 92.11% on April 7.

The Active cases (9,10,319) on April 8, 2021, accounted for 7.04% of the total Covid-19 cases (1,29,28,574) recorded so far in India, a massive jump of 66,846 cases in last 24 hours. India has tested 25,26,77,379 samples so far including 12,37,781 samples on April 7, 2021. Meanwhile, altogether 9,01,98,673 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country including 29,79,292 beneficiaries on April 7, 2021.

The Covid-19 toll jumped to 1,66,862 in India on April 8, 2021, with 685 new deaths being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 322 in Maharashtra, 62 in Punjab, 53 in Chhattisgarh, 40 in UttarPradesh, 35 in Karnataka, 22 in Gujarat, 20 in Delhi, 17 in Tamilnadu, 16 in Kerala, 13 in Madhya Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, 11 in Haryana, 11 in Andhra Pradesh, 9 in Himachal Pradesh, 8 in West Bengal, 7 in Jharkhand, 7 in Telengana, 6 in J&K, 5 in Uttarakhand, and 3 in Bihar. India had recorded 630 new deaths on April 7, 2021. The case fatality rate dropped to 1.29% in India on April 8, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.
