New Delhi : India logged 4,01,078 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours taking the tally to 2,18,92,676 cases in the country at 8 am on May 8, 2021. The country had recorded 4,14,188 new Covid-19 cases on May 7, 2021. On the positive side, a total of 3,18,609 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in India in last 24 hours taking the tally of patients cured so far to 1,79,30,960 on May 8, 2021. The recovery rate (RR) of Covid-19 patients in India was 81.90 % on May 8, 2021. India also recorded 4,187 new deaths due to Covid-19 on May 8, 2021.
Active cases surged to 37,23,446 in India on May 8, 2021, an increase of 78,282 cases in last 24 hours. The country has so far tested 30,04,10,043 samples including 18,08,344 samples on May 7, 2021. On the other hand, a total of 16,73,46,544 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far including 22,97,257 beneficiaries on May 7, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.
The Covid-19 death toll climbed to 2,38,270 in with 4,187 new deaths being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 898 in Maharashtra, 592 in Karnataka, 372 in Uttar Pradesh, 341 in Delhi, 208 in Chhattisgarh, 197 in Tamilnadu, 165 in Punjab, 164 in Rajasthan, 162 in Haryana, 137 in Uttarakhand, 136 in Jharkhand, 119 in Gujarat, 112 in West Bengal, 84 in Madhya Pradesh, 73 in Andhra Pradesh, 62 in Bihar, and 56 in Goa. India had recorded 3,915 new deaths on May 7, 2021.
