New Delhi : India logged 2,81,386 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, down from 3,11,170 cases on May 16, 2021, taking the tally of cases to 2,49,65,463 in the country at 8 am on May 17, 2021. In a major development, a total of 3,78,741 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in the country in last 24 hours, up from 3,62,437 on May 16, taking the tally to 2,11,74,076 on May 17, 2021. The country also recorded 4,106 new deaths due to Covid-19 in last 24 hours taking the tally to 2,74,390 on May 17, 2021. The recovery rate (RR) of Covid-19 patients improved to 84.81% in India on May 17 from 84.25% on May 16, 2021.
Active cases dropped to 35,16,997 in India on May 17, 2021, from 36,18,458 on May 16, a drop of 1,01,461 cases in last 24 hours, and accounted for 14.09 % of the total Covid-19 cases (2,49,65,463) in the country. The country has tested 31,64,23,658 samples so far including 15,73,515 samples on May 16, 2021. Meanwhile, a total of 18,29,26,460 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far including 6,91,211 beneficiaries on May 16, 2021.
India recorded 4,106 new Covid-19 deaths in last 24 hours including 974 in Maharashtra, 403 in Karnataka, 311 in Tamilnadu, 308 in Uttar Pradesh, 262 in Delhi, 202 in Punjab, 188 in Uttarakhand, 156 in Rajasthan, 147 in West Bengal, 144 in Chhattisgarh, 139 in Haryana, 101 in Andhra Pradesh, 89 in Bihar, 82 in Gujarat, 79 in Madhya Pradesh, 70 in Himachal Pradesh, 59 in J&K, 56 in Assam, 48 in Jharkhand, 43 in Goa, and 27 in Telengana. India had logged 4,077 new deaths on May 16, 2021. The case fatality rate jumped to 1.10% in the country on May 17, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.
