Patna : India demolished England by an innings and 25 runs on March 6, 2021, in the 4th test at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to win the four-match test series 3-1 and qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Finals. India will clash with New Zealand in WTC Finals. Rishabh pant (wk) was named Player Of The Match for scoring 101 in this test. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was named Player Of The Series.

India, who had taken a 160 runs lead on first innings, shot out England for a paltry 135 runs in 54.5 overs in their 2nd innings in the third session of play on Day 3 as spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel took five wickets each. England had won the first test but India won the next three tests.

Ashwin took 5/47 in 22.5 overs in England’s 2nd innings, his 30th five wicket hauls in test cricket. He took 8 wickets in the 4th test. Axar Patel took 5/48 in 24 overs to finish with 9 wickets in the match. Axar took 27 wickets in the last three tests. Axar made his test debut in 2nd test. Axar had scored 43 runs in India’s first innings. He had Washington Sundar added 106 runs for the 8th wicket.

Daniel Lawrence was the lone bright spot for England in this test scoring 46 in the first innings and 50 in 2nd innings. He was the last man out in 2nd innings. Captain Joe Root scored 30 runs in 2nd innings while Ben Stokes scored 2 and Jonny Bairstow was out for a duck, his third zero in last 4 innings.

England had scored 205 runs in their first innings while India were all out for 365 runs in their first innings on Day 3.
