Patna : India defeated England by a massive 151 runs in the 2nd test at Lord’s, London, in the last hour of play on Day 5 on August 16, 2021, night, with fast bowler Mohd Siraj taking 4/32 in 10.5 overs and fellow fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah taking 3/33 in 15 overs to go 1-0 up in the five-match test series. fast bowler Ishant Sharma took 2/13 in 10 overs while fellow fast bowler Mohd Shami took 1/13 in 10 overs. Captain Virat Kohli was jubilant. Siraj had also taken four wickets (4/94) in England’s first innings while Ishant had taken 3 wickets. Opener K L Rahul was named Player Of The Match.
Chasing a target of 272 runs, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals and finally folded up for just 120 runs in 51.5 overs with captain Joe Root scoring 33 runs and Jos Buttler (wk) scoring 25 runs. Rain had denied India an opportunity to win first test, which ended in a draw.
Earlier, Moh Shami and Jasprit Bumrah had brought India back into the game by adding 88 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 9th wicket. Shami remained unbeaten on 56 in 70 balls with 6 fours and 1 six while Bumrah remained unbeaten on 34 in 64 balls with 3 fours.
Thanks to Shami-Bumrah duo, India declared their second innings at 298/8 in 109 overs in 2nd over after lunch. India had scored 364 runs in their first innings. In reply, England had scored 391 runs in their first innings but collapsed to be all out for only 120 runs in their 2nd innings.
