Patna : India defeated West Indies (WI) by 6 wickets in the 1st ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on February 6, 2022, night, to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Chasing a target of 177 runs, India scored 178/4 in 28 overs with Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda adding 62 runs in 63 balls in their unbroken partnership for the 5th wicket. India had won the toss and opted to bowl.
Earlier, openers Rohit Sharma (captain) and Ishan Kishan added 84 runs for the 1st wicket. Rohit fell to fast medium bowler Alzaro Joseph for 60 in 51 balls hitting 10 fours and 1 six and it was 84/1. Virat Kohli did not last long and fell to Alzaro Joseph for 8 in 4 balls with 2 fours making it 93/2. Batting first, WI were all out for 176 runs in 43.5 overs with leg break bowler Yuzvendra Chahal taking 4/49 in 9.5 overs and off spinner Washington Sundar taking 3/30 in 9 overs.Fast medium bowler Prasidh Krishna took 2/29 in 10 overs while fellow fast medium bowler Mohd Siraj took 1/26 in 8 overs. For WI, bowling all-rounder Jason Holder scored 57 in 71 balls hitting 4 sixes while batting all-rounder Fabian Allen made 29 runs in 43 balls with 2 fours. Captain Kieron Pollard fell to Prasidh Krishna for zero while Nicholas fell to Chahal for 18 runs. Opener Shai Hope fell to Siraj for 8 runs. WI were reduced to 79/7 but Holder and Fabian Allen steadied the innings adding 78 runs for the 8th wicket.
