Patna : India beat West Indies (WI) by 4 wickets in the 1st T20I at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida, USA, on August 4, 2019, night, with opener and vice-captain Rohit Sharma scoring 24 in 25 balls hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes, one each of fast bowlers Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell. Rohit fell to spinner Sunil Narine. Replying to WI’s 95/9 in 20 overs, India scored 98/6 in 17.2 overs with spinner Washington Sundar hitting the winning six.

Captain Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey scored 19 each while Krunal Pandya made 12. Rishabh Pant (wk) fell to spinner Sunil Narine for zero. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 10 while Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 8. For WI, Cottrell, Keemo Paul, and Sunil Narine took two wickets each.

Although India won the 1st T20I, the batting by the top order was hardly inspiring. The same held true of WI too.
