Patna : India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the Nidahas Trophy tri-series T20I at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on March 12, 2018, night, riding on a brilliant 42 in 31 balls with 3 fours and a six by Manish Pandey and an equally explosive 39 in 25 balls with 5 fours by Dinesh Karthik. Both were involved in an unbeaten  68 run partnership for the 5th wicket. The match was reduced to 19 overs each side due to rain.

Captain Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued as he was out for 11 in 7 balls with a six and a four while opener Shikhar Dhawan was out for 8 in 10 balls. Suresh Raina made 27 in 15 balls hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes while K L Rahul scored 18 in 17 balls hitting a four. For Sri Lanka, spinner Akila Dhananjay took 2/19 in 4 overs. Nuwan Pradeep and Jehan Mendis also took one wicket each. Dhananjay took the wickets of  Rohit Sharma and Dhawan.

Earlier, asked to bat first by India, who won the toss, Sri Lanka made 152/9 in 19 overs courtesy 55 in 38 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes by K Mendis. For India, Shardul Thakur took 4/27 in 4 overs while Washington Sunder took 2/21 in 4 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal, Jaidev Unadkat and Vijay Shankar took one wicket each. India made 153/4 with nine balls to spare. It was second match between India and Sri Lanka in the tri-series. Sri Lanka had won the first match on March 6, India won the second match. Sri Lanka had also lost to Bangaladesh.
