India beat NZ by 90 runs in 2nd ODI, take 2-0 lead in five-match series

Patna : India beat New Zealand (NZ) by 90 runs in the 2nd ODI at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, on January 26, 2019, to take 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. It was India’s biggest winning margin against New Zealand in ODIs. Kuldeep Yadav took 4/45 in 10 overs while Yuzvendra Chahal took 2/52 in 9.2 overs. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar took 2/42 in 7 overs. Mohammad Shami and Kedar Jadhav took one wicket each. Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match. Kuldeep had also taken 4 wickets in the first ODI. He has so far taken 77 wickets in ODIs.

Set a target of 325, New Zealand were all out for 234 in 40.2 overs with fast bowler Doug Bracewell scoring 57 in 46 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes and wicketkeeper Tom Lathan 34 in 32 balls with 3 fours and a six. Openers Martin Guptil and Colin Munro scored 15 and 31 runs respectively. Guptil fell to Bhuvaneshwar Kumar while Munro fell to Chahal after hitting 3 fours and a six. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was out for 20 to Mohammad Shami while Ross Taylor fell to Kedar Jadhav for 22 with 2 fours. Colin de Grandhomme made 3 while Henry Nicholls scored 28 with 2 fours. Nicholls fell to Kuldeep Yadav.

Earlier, opting to bat after winning the toss, India scored 324/4 in 50 overs with openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan scoring 87 and 66 runs respectively. Sharma hit 9 fours and 3 sixes in his 87 while Dhawan hit 9 fours. They added 154 runs for the first wicket, their 14th century stand in ODIs. Captain Virat Kohli scored 43 in 45 balls with 5 fours while Ambati Rayudu made 47 in 49 balls with 3 fours and a six. Wicketkeeper M S Dhoni scored an unbeaten 48 in 33 balls with 5 fours and a six while Kedar Jadhav remained not out on 22 in 10 balls with 3 fours and a six.
