Patna : India beat England by 7 wickets in the 2nd T20I at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on March 14, 2021, late night, as captain Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 73 in 49 balls hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes, his 26th fifty in T20Is, and debutant opener Ishan Kishan scoring 56 in 32 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes to level the five-match T20I series 1-1. India had won the toss but opted to bowl. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made their international debut with this match. Ishan Kishan was named Player Of The Match.

Batting first, England had scored 164/6 in 20 overs with opener Jason Roy scoring 46 and captain Eoin Morgan scoring 28.Dawid Malan and all-rounder Ben Stokes made 24 run each while Jonny Bairstow scored 20 runs. Spinner Washington Sundar and pacer Shardul Thakur took two wickets each while Bhuvneshwar Prasad and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each. India conceded only 34 runs in last 5 overs of England innings.

Chasing a target of 165 run, India scored 166/3 in 17.5 overs with Kohli hitting fast medium bowler Chris Jordan for a four and a six on successive balls in 18th over. Earlier, India made a terrible start losing the wicket of opener Lokesh Rahul with no run on board. Rahul, who fell to fast bowler Jofra Archer for 1 in 1st T20I on March 12, 2021, again fell to the same bowler for zero. But, Ishan Kishan and Kohli added 94 runs for the 2nd wicket. Ishan fell to spinner Adil Rashid in his 2nd over but before that he hit him for 2 sixes on successive balls in that over. Ishan and Kohli hit Ben Stokes for a six each in his first over. Ishan also hit fast medium bowler Tom Curran for a six and two fours in his first over. Isshan’s was an explosive innings.

Kohli and Rishabh Pant (wk) added 36 runs for third wicket. Pant fell to Chris Jordan for 26 in 13 balls hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes and it was 130/3.  Kohli and Shreyas Iyer also added 36 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 4th wicket. Iyer remained unbeaten on 8 runs. Kohli completed 3,000 runs in T20Is in the match.
