Patna : India beat Australia by 6 wickets in the 2nd ODI at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, Australia, on January 15, 2019, riding on a brilliant 104 in 112 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes by captain Virat Kohli, his 39th ODI ton, and an unbeaten 55 in 54 balls with 2 sixes by wicketkeeper M S Dhoni. The three-match ODI series is now level 1-1. Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match.

With India requiring 7 runs in the final over bowled by Jason Behrendorff, Dhoni hit the first ball for a six on long-on and next for 1 to attain the target of 299 with 4 balls to spare ( 49,2 overs). Dhoni had scored half-century in the 1st ODI too but in 96 balls. Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten on 25 in 14 balls 2 fours. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan scored 43 and 32 runs respectively while Ambati Rayudu scored 24 in 36 balls.

Rohit hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 43 in 52 balls. Dhawan made 32 in 28 balls with 5 fours. Rohit and Dhawan added 47 runs for the first wicket. Rohit and Kohli added 54 runs for the second wicket. Kohli and Rayudu added 59 runs for the 3rd wicket. Kohli also added 82 runs with Dhoni for the 4th wicket. Dhoni and Karthik were involved in an unbroken partnership of 57 runs for the 5th wicket.

Australia had scored 298/9 in 50 overs with Shaun Marsh scoring 131 in 123 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes and Glen Maxwell 48 in 37 balls with 5 fours and a six. Captain and opener Aaron Finch was out for 6 while opening partner Alex Carey made 18. Usman Khwaja was run out for 21 while Peter Handscomb made 20. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis scored 29.

For India, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar took 4/45 while Mohammad Shami took 3/58. Spinnder Ravindra Jadeja took 1/49.
