Patna : India were all out for 286 in 85.5 overs in the third session of play on Day 3 in their second innings in 2nd test against England at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamilnadu, on February 15, 2021, as spinner Ravichandran Ashwin scored a brilliant 106 in 148 balls with 14 fours and 1 six, a gem of a century, his 5th test ton, and captain Virat Kohli scoring 62 in 149 balls with 7 fours. India lead by 481 runs. India were reduced to 106/6 after 36.1 overs. Ashwin fell to fast bowler Olly Stone.

Ashwin completed his 5th test century in the company of Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, and Mohd Siraj ( 16 not out including 2 sixes). Kohli and Ashwin added 96 runs for the 7th wicket. Ashwin and Mohd Siraj added 49 runs for the 10th wicket.  Earlier, Ashwin had scored four test centuries against West Indies (WI).  India added 232 runs on Day 3 to their overnight score of 54/1.

At 91, Ashwin hit a six and a four in 82nd over bowled by spinner Moeen Ali to reach his century amidst chants of ” Ashwin, Ashwin”.   Ashwin had taken 5/43 in England’s first innings.

Set a target of 482 runs, England were 6/0 after 3 overs in their 2nd innings.
