Patna :  India were 450/5 in 124 overs at a run rate of 3.63 in their first innings at tea on Day 2 in the first test against South Africa (SA) at Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatna, on October 3, 2019, with Rohit Sharma scoring 176 in 244 balls with 23 fours and 6 sixes and his opening partner Mayank Anurag Agarwal scoring 215 in 371 balls with 23 fours and 6 sixes. It was Agarwal’s maiden test ton as well as double ton. Agarwal scored his double century in 358 balls.

Resuming at their overnight score of 202/0, India lost their first wicket that of opener Rohit Sharma at 317 and then lost four more wickets including that of Chetswar Pujara, captain Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahanae, and Agarwal adding  133 runs. Rohit fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj  while Pujara (6) fell to pacer Vernon Philander. Kohli fell to spinner  Senuran Muthusamy for 20 in 40 balls with 4 fours. It was debutant Muthusamy’s first test wicket. Kohli added 53 runs with Agarwal for 3rd wicket. Rahane (15) fell to Maharaj. Rahane added 54 runs for 4th wicket with Agarwal. Agarwal fell to part-time spinner Dean Elgar. India are likely to declare their innings soon.

For South Africa, Maharaj took 2/169 in 49 overs while Muthusamy took 1/63 in 15 overs. Philander took 1/56 in 20 overs while Elgar took 1/4 in his only over.
