Patna : India were 294/7 in 94 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 2 in the 4th test against England at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as Rishabh Pant (wk) scored a brilliant 101 in 118 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes, his 3rd century, while spinner Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 60 in 117 balls with 8 fours. Pant and Sundar added 113 runs for the 7th wicket. Pant displayed very good movement of feet and shot selection some of them daring. India lead by 89 runs. England were all out for 205 in their first innings on Day 1.

Pant fell to pacer James Anderson. He hit England captain Joe Root for a six to reach his century. Rohit Sharma scored 49 in 144 balls hitting 7 fours. Resuming at their overnight score of 24/1, India lost the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara on the last ball of 24th over. Pujara fell to spinner Jack Leach for 17 making it 40/2. Pujara and Rohit added 40 runs for the 2nd wicket. Captain Virat Kohli fell to all-rounder Ben Stokes for zero and  it was 41/3.

Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane added 39 runs for the 4th wicket. Rahane fell to James Anderson for 27 making it 80/4. Rohit and Rishabh Pant then added 41 runs for the 5th wicket. Rohit fell to Ben Stokes. and it was 121/5 Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin fell to Jack Leach for 13 making it 146/6. Axar Patel is was unbeaten on  11 at stumps.
