Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, India were a modest 233/6 in 89 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 1 in day-night 1st test against Australia at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, Australia,thanks to two fifty plus partnership – fisrt between Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli and then between Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli was run out for 74 in 180 balls with 8 fours, a subdued innings by his standard though very good for the team playing some good pull shots.

At one stage, India, were 188/3 but were soon 233/6 as Kohli was run out at 188 as Rahane went for a run which was not there and then went back leaving Kohli stranded. Kohli was visibly unhappy after getting run out. Australia have taken the second new pink ball.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc took 2/29 while Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and spinner Nathan Lyon took one wicket each. Debutant all-rounder Cameron Green is still searching for his first test wicket.

India made a disastrous start losing their first wicket that of opener Prithvi Shaw, a surprise inclusion in the team ignoring the strong claim of Subhman Gill, without any run on board. Shaw fell to Starc. Opener Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara added 32 runs for the 2nd wicket. Agarwal fell to Cummins for 17 and it was 32/2.

Pujara and Kohli then added 68 runs for the 3rd wicket. Pujara, however, fell to Nathan Lyon for 43 in 160 balls with justv 2 fours. Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane then added 88 runs for the 4th wicket. Kohli was run out for 74 and it was 188/4. Rahane fell to Starc for 42 in 92 balls with 3 fours and a six and it was 196/5. All-rounder Hanuma Vihari fell to Josh Hazlewood for 16 in 25 balls with 2 fours and it was 206/6. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ( 15) and wk Wriddhiman Saha (9) have added 27 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 7th wicket.
