Patna : India were 172/3 in 69 overs in their first innings at stumps on day 2 in the second test against Australia at Perth Stadium, Perth, Australia, on December 15, 2018, with captain Virat Kohli batting on 82 in 181 balls with 9 fours and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane batting on 51 in 103 balls with 6 fours and a six. Kohli and Rahane have so far added 90 runs for the 4th wicket. India trail by 154 runs with 7 wickets in hand.
Kohli also added 74 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara for the 3rd wicket. Pujara fell to Mitchell Starc for 24 in 103 balls with just one four. India made a disastrous start to their first innings losing both their openers : Murali Vijay and Lokesh Rahul, for just 8 runs. Vijay fell to Starc for duck while Lokesh Rahul fell to Josh Hazlewood for 2.
Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 277/6, Australia were all out for 326 runs in their first innings. The last four Australian wickets added 49 runs. Captain and wicketkeeper scored 38 with 5 fours while Pat Cummins scored 19. Mitchell Starc scored 6 while Josh Hazlewood was out for duck. Spinner Nathan Lyon remained unbeaten on 9.
For India, Ishant Sharma took 4/41 while Umesh Yadav took 2/78 and Jasprit Bumrah 2/53. Part-time spinner Hanuma Vihari took 2/53.
