Patna : India were 147/3 after 38 overs in their first innings on day 1 of the 3rd test against South Africa (SA) at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, Jharkhand, on October 19, 2019, with opener Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 75 in 112 balls hitting 13 fours and a six and Ajinkya Rahane batting on 49 in 67 balls with 8 fours. Rohit, the Hit-Man, and Rahane have so far added 108 runs in 136 balls for the 4th wicket.

India lost the wickets of Opener Mayank Agarwal ( 10), Cheteswar Pujara (0), and captain Virat Kohli (12) in the first session of the play.

India dropped fast bowler Ishant Sharma and brought in spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, a Jharkhand boy, while SA brought in Lungi Ngidi, Heinrich Klassen (wk), and George Linde dropping spinner Senuran Muthusamy, Theunis de Bruyn, and Vernon Philander.
