Patna : Chasing a target of 204 runs, India were 107/1 after 9 overs in the 1st T20I against New Zealand (NZ) at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand, with opener Lokesh Rahul batting on 53 hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes and captain Virat Kohli batting on 39 with 3 fours and a six. Opener Rohit Sharma fell to spinner Mitchell Santner for 7 including a six. India won the toss and opted to bowl.

Batting first, NZ scored 203/5 in 20 overs with three of its batsmen : Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (captain), and Ross Taylor, scoring fifties. Williamson and Taylor added 61 runs for the 4th wicket. Williamson fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for 51 in only 26 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Taylor remained unbeaten on 54 in just 27 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Earlier, opener : Martin Guptil and Colin Munro, added 80 runs for the first wicket. Guptil fell to all-rounder Shivam Duber for 30 in 19 balls with 4 fours and a six. Munro fell to pacer Shardul Thakur for 59 in 42 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes making it 116/2. All rounder Colin de Grandhomme fell to spinner Ravindra Jadeja for a duck making it 117/3. Tim Seifert (wk) fell to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for 1 and it was 181/5. Mitchell Santner remained not out on 2.
