Patna : Unseeded Iga Swiatek, 19, Poland, brushed aside reigning Australian Open champion and 4th seed Sofia Kenin, 21, USA, in straight sets in women’s singles final on Philippe-Chatrier court, Roland Garros, Paris, France, to win the French Open title, her first Grand Slam title. Swiatek beat Kenin 6-4, 6-1 in the final to become Poland’s first Grand Slam singles champion. The Pole did not drop a set in the tournament.

Swiatek, who had stunned top seed Simona Halep, 29, Romania, in 4th round on October 4, 2020, won 6 break points to 3 by Kenin.Both the players served must 1 Ace each. Both of them also committed 3 double faults each in the match. Swiatek won 6 games in a row in the match to 3 by the American, who was bidding for her second Grand Slam singles title.

Swiatek, in all, won 65 points to 42 by Kenin. Swiatek’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 68% & 59%) was much better than that of Kenin’s ( 45% & 31 %).
