IB playing important role in tackling terrorism, LWE : Rajnath

New Delhi : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on October 16, 2017, inaugurated the West Zone Regional Training Centre of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) at  Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The purpose of the training centre is to strengthen and professionally empower the State Police Special Branches. The West Zone will include states of Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

Inaugurating the centre, Rajnath Singh said that IB has been playing an important role in tackling the challenges of terrorism, separatism and Left Wing Extremism (LWE). He appreciated the officials of IB for fulfilling their duties within limited resources. He also said that the Central Government or IB alone can’t meet all challenges of internal security. Role of states’ police is very important for internal security, he added. He also emphasized on coordination among special branch of state police, IB and police forces for meeting the challenges.  He said that intelligence plays an important role in the effective execution of internal security system of the country, according to a PIB release.

The IB places lot of emphasis on continuous upgradation of professional skills of IB employees through regular In-service training courses. In the 21 month period between January, 2016 and September, 2017, 12, 142 personnel were given training in intelligence and national security related subjects. Out of these, 462 were CAPF personnel and 1,320 were State Police/Special Branch personnel. The remaining 10, 360 personnel were from IB, according to the release.
