New Delhi : Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry on December 4, 2020, issued advisory on Online Gaming, Fantasy Sports etc. The Ministry has advised broadcasters to adhere to the Guidelines issued by Advertising Standards Council of India. The Ministry has also advised that the advertisements should not promote any activity prohibited by statute or law.
It had come to the notice of I&B Ministry that a large number of advertisements on Online Gaming, Fantasy Sports, etc. were appearing on Television. Concerns were expressed that such advertisements appear to be misleading, do not correctly convey to the customers the financial and other risks associated thereof, and are not in strict conformity of with the Advertisement Code laid down under Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1955, and the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, according to a PIB release.
All broadcasters have been asked that the guidelines issued by Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) are complied with and advertisements broadcast on television adhere to them.
