Nawada: A big hoarding accusing Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and Nawada BJP MP Giriraj Singh of handing over the district unit of the BJP to rank opportunists besides engaging personal representatives, all drawn from outside the district, was put up prominently at “Prajatantra Chowk”, the town’s busiest intersection just behind Nawada collectorate headquarters. It has become a become a hot topic for discussion.

The hoarding, put up on Friday morning, listed the minister’s preference for outsiders at the cost of local party workers. It said that the minister rode roughshod over local aspirations by prevailing to foist Shashi Bhushan Kumar, a native of adjoining Nalanda district, as Nawada district president of the BJP. Besides, all the eight personal assistants have been selected from outside Nawada district including the personal staff that fetches water for the MP.

It may be mentioned here that about two months back, a similar poster put up in adjoining Shiekhpura district’s Birbigha (a Nawada parliamentary segment) claimed that Giriiraj Singh had gone traceless and a reward would be given to those who locate him. The message meant that Giriraj had never visited the constituency ever since he was elected as MP in 2014. Giriraj repaired the damage by visiting the area several times.

Bittu Sharma, one of the MP’s private assistants and a native of Jehanabad, said that it was the MP’s prerogative to appoint his staff. As for the district BJP president, he said that Shashi Bhushan Kumar was elected by the local party workers not outsiders. He added that it was the handiwork of people belonging to the RJD-JD (U)- Congress combine. The minister could not be contacted as he was outside the state.
