Patna : World Number 6 Grigor Dimitrov, 26, Bulgaria, defeated World Number 8 David Goffin, 26, Belgium, in a fierce contest 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, in 2 hour 31 minutes in the final of ATP World Tour Finals at O2 arena, London, late November 19, 2017, night, on debut to win his career’s biggest title winning 1,500 points in the ATP rankings. Goffin secured 800 points. Federer got 600 points and Jack Sock, US, got 400 points.
Goffin had defeated World Number 2 and title favourite Roger Federer in the semi-finals. Dimitrov had also defeated Goffin in the round robin match in Pete Sampras group, which he topped winning all his three matches to enter the semi-finals. Federer had topped the Boris Becker group winning all his three matches to enter the semi-finals.
It was Dimitrov’s first ATP Worl Tour Finals title and with it has jumped to World Number 3 in the ATP rankings released on November 20, 2017, with 5,150 points pushing Alexander Zverev, 20, Germany, with 4,610 points to fourth position and Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, to fifth with 4,015 points. Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, and Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, retain their Number 1 and Number 2 position respectively in the latest ATP rankings. Nadal has 10,645 poitns while Federer has 9,605 points. Marin Cilic is 6th with 3,805 points, David Goffin 7th with 3,775 points and Jack Sock, US, 8th with 3,150 points in the latest ATP rankings.
Yuki Bhambri, India, is at 122nd position jumping 15 places with 482 points in the ATP rankings while Ramkumar Ramnathan, India, is at 139th positon jumping 11 places with 405 points.
